Husein Alićajić makes psychologically charged films with a precise visual approach. Born in Sydney to Bosnian and Scottish parents and based in Los Angeles, he works across film, television, commercials and immersive installations. Identity, control and transformation are recurring interests. The surface rarely tells the whole story.
His commercial work has received recognition at Cannes Lions, New York Festivals, the Clios and Ciclope. He has also been honoured by the Australian Directors’ Guild.
His short “Beginnings” won the Dendy Award at the Sydney Film Festival and received AACTA and IF Award nominations. The pilot of his series “One Sided” won Best Direction in an Online Drama Series at the ADG Awards. Across formats, he brings the same attention to what people reveal, and what they hold back.
