Jack Howard’s Creative Journey

January 11, 2024

A curiosity for the art and history of storytelling has shaped Jack’s creative journey. Studying literature and exploring the art world at the University of Manchester and pursuing a masters in literature amid Berlin’s melting pot of cultures and languages, the art of how stories are told was the bedrock of his studies.

It was at his first film festival, the Berlin Film Festival, as one of 10 CO Gallery Young Photographers, that Jack’s story took a marvelous turn, “I suddenly realized that film was where creativity and business meet,” said Jack, “Producing films is this kind of perfect marriage of creativity and entrepreneurialism. Making amazing works of art, making creative content, but within an industry which isn't scared of making money.”

Following this passion for cinema, Howard created the Berlin Film Society in 2012, an independent, nonprofit, completely nomadic organization. As a programmer of these eclectic, wildly popular experiential film events, Jack found his talent as a tastemaker and curator, “There was a degree of skill to cherry picking films that would only be shown once, creating hype, and having the taste to know what audiences want”.

Following years leading the Berlin Film society, Jack’s filmic adventures delved into the advertising world. In his time with Mission Media, Condé Nast Britain, and ACNE London, Jack was drawn to innovative projects, pushing to be a producer who elevated creativity to its absolute biggest, best version.

“An idea is nothing if it doesn’t come to life,” says Jack. “I’m committed to the mantra “See how far you can go,” an avoidance of the mundane and the average. This expectation to exceed and excel in everything that you do, of artistry beyond the norm, is something that we offer at Eleanor.”

A champion of bold artistry, a fierce advocate for diversity in front of and behind the camera, and a storyteller devoted to cinematic craft, Jack is thrilled to be joining a production company leading the industry wave of change, “Eleanor is the culmination of where I’ve been headed. Now I’m in a pure play film environment. Film has always been at the heart of what I do, but not always at the heart of the companies that I have worked at,” says Jack.

President Sophie Gold’s leadership specifically drew Jack’s attention, “Sophie is making waves and opening doors in a way that is really head turning. Working for someone with such a clear vision, and sense of purpose, and sense of urgency for change has been truly exciting.”

Thrilled to be closer to the work, hand in hand with directors, and a creative partner for filmmakers, agencies, and clients, Jack aims to be a dependable, diplomatic producer that ensures there’s winners only on every project, being “a skilled Executive Producer is a diplomat. Working hand in hand with directors, being a creative partner for filmmakers, agencies and clients, a good EP understands what the client wants, what the agency wants, what the director wants, and can make everybody feel like they're winning.”

Eleanor President Sophie Gold sings Jack’s praises, “Jack is a champion of directors and creativity. He’s a natural problem solver with an eye for talent and the kind of passion for craft that we treasure at Eleanor. He truly understands the needs of agencies, because he once sat in their chairs. Jack’s innovative work in advertising, including his recent role as Head of Production speaks to his breadth and depth of experience. I’m thrilled to have Jack as our London office Executive Producer.”
